Destiny 2 is reintroducing some of the most infamous guns in the game’s history, but Bungie assures players that they have been toned down. The return of Recluse, The Mountaintop, and Luna’s Howl, among other fan favorites, has caused a mix of excitement and concern among players. These weapons defined a notorious era of Destiny 2, but Bungie says they are no longer game-breaking.
Recluse, in particular, was known for its Master of Arms perk, which was so powerful it warped both PvE and PvP meta. However, Bungie has reduced its damage bonus to just 15% for its return, which should balance it against other damage perks.
The Mountaintop’s unique micro-missile perk has also been adjusted. It now fires grenades faster and in a straight line, but it can no longer one-hit kill in PvP. Bungie wants to avoid another Mountaintop meta, so this version is designed to be competitive with other Breech-Loaded Grenade Launchers and have added usability thanks to its point-and-aim mechanics.
Finally, Luna’s Howl, a weapon known for dropping players faster than any other primary weapon, has been adjusted as well. It now requires more precision final blows to trigger its two-tap damage buff, but getting kills with this buff active will extend it. Bungie wants to bring back the potential for two-tapping Guardians in PvP, but with a little more effort.
While some players may be nervous about the return of these weapons, Bungie assures us that they are no longer game-breaking. In the worst-case scenario, we may see a few weeks of chaos before The Final Shape arrives in June, which might actually be kind of fun. It’s nice to have these guns back, and hopefully, they won’t cause the same problems they did in the past.
