During the Triple-i Initiative showcase on Wednesday, Ubisoft confirmed speculations and announced the next installment in the Prince of Persia series, titled The Rogue Prince of Persia. This 2D action-platformer is currently in development at Dead Cells studio, Evil Empire.
A stylish cinematic announcement trailer was revealed during the showcase, followed by a gameplay segment that offers a glimpse into the game’s actual gameplay. As seen in the gameplay trailer, The Rogue Prince of Persia appears to incorporate some elements from Dead Cells and looks quite impressive.
The game is set in a fictional version of Ctesiphon, the capital of the Persian empire, which is under threat of invasion by the Hun’s army of possessed soldiers, led by the malevolent Hun chief, Nogai. Players assume the role of the Prince, who possesses a mystical bola that resurrects him each time he dies. This magical artifact has enabled him to take significant risks to hone his acrobatics and combat skills, transforming him into a formidable warrior. Players must assist the Prince in exploring different biomes, mastering new weapons, equipping new trinkets, upgrading his gear at the Oasis, and rallying his allies to save the city from destruction.
The Rogue Prince of Persia features wall-running elements that players will use to traverse through procedurally generated levels inspired by Persian architecture. The game offers a variety of weapons, including twin daggers, spears, broad swords, axes, shields, bows, and grappling hooks.
The soundtrack for The Rogue Prince of Persia was produced and composed by Persian-American electronic producer and artist ASADI.
Evil Empire is no stranger to working on other companies’ franchises, having released Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania in 2023, which brought Castlevania-themed characters, items, and locations into Dead Cells.
The Rogue Prince of Persia will be available on Steam Early Access starting May 14, allowing fans to experience it soon. This follows the release of the critically acclaimed metroidvania Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown in January. Meanwhile, the upcoming Prince of Persia: Sands of Time remake is reportedly undergoing another overhaul.
